This video is presented by an AI-generated speaker designed to deliver information clearly and consistently.

This informational video from PUSD Resource and Referral guides parents through the process of selecting a quality child care provider. It explains different types of child care settings—including licensed centers, family child care homes, and license-exempt providers—and highlights key factors to consider such as health and safety, staff qualifications, child-to-teacher ratios, curriculum, and daily routines.

Parents are encouraged to visit facilities, ask questions, and trust their instincts when making decisions for their child’s well-being. The video also outlines tips for building strong relationships with providers, understanding parent rights and responsibilities, and staying actively involved in a child’s care.

Additionally, it introduces Oliver’s Law, which gives parents the right to access information about complaints against child care providers. Contact information for local licensing offices and the Resource and Referral program is provided for further support.

Disaster Preparedness Training for Child Care Providers
Practical, hands-on training to prepare for emergencies like wildfires

Nick Bello, President of Lion Heart Safety, led the training. He is also a Fire Captain, Paramedic, and expert in social services at Lion Heart Safety.

Lana Frisby, Director of Child Care Safety and Social Services at Lion Heart Safety, also supported the event.

Jose Marquez, Child Development Translator and Caseload Technician, and Monica Loriso, Program Assistant at PUSD’s Child Development Resource and Referral Unit, were on hand to assist and support participants.

We had a full class of engaged attendees. The presenter emphasized that safety always comes first. Everyone left with valuable tools and materials to support emergency planning at home or in child care settings—such as Emergency Backpacks and helpful emergency handbooks.

Attendees asked thoughtful questions, and staff provided clear instructions and guidance. The training included group discussions, scenario reenactments, and experience-sharing among participants. Audio translation devices were available to ensure accessibility for all.

The event was well-organized. Attendees enjoyed lunch and left with treats—but most importantly, they left with life-saving knowledge and resources.

It was a memorable day.
