About UPK
Welcome to Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) for Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties
Pomona Unified School District wants to help families learn about UPK. UPK means Universal Prekindergarten. It gives 3- and 4-year-old kids more chances to join early learning programs. Many of these programs are free or low cost.
What is UPK?
UPK has different types of programs, such as:
-
Transitional Kindergarten (TK): A special kindergarten for 4-year-olds at many schools.
-
State Preschool: Preschool paid for by the state.
-
Head Start: Free preschool for families with low income.
-
Family Child Care Homes: Licensed care run in a home.
-
Child Care Centers: Licensed care in a school-like setting.
All families can join UPK. It does not matter how much money you make or where you were born.
