Provider Café: CCPU LA – “Cree en Ti Mismo” (Spanish Cohort)
Date Held: April 24
On April 24, the final Provider Café for the CCPU LA Spanish cohort was held in person. This event, themed "Cree en Ti Mismo" ("Believe in Yourself"), offered a meaningful opportunity for providers to connect, reflect, and focus on their own well-being as caregivers.
The Provider Café series is designed as a small, discussion-based gathering where child care providers can openly share their experiences, build peer support, and engage in mutual learning. These sessions provide a safe and non-judgmental space for dialogue, particularly for individuals caring for children who have experienced trauma.
Participants in the program are required to complete four training sessions facilitated by Ms. Jessica, along with three optional cafés. Those who fulfill the requirements receive a stipend upon completion.
Each café is centered around the Five Protective Factors: resilience, social connections, concrete support, knowledge of parenting and child development, and social and emotional competence of children. During each session, participants explore two of these protective factors through guided “conversation rounds,” encouraging meaningful dialogue and reflection with a partner.
This final café emphasized the importance of self-care. Providers received yoga mats and exercise cards designed for individual use or shared activities with children. As a closing activity, participants wrote a “tarjeta de compromiso” (commitment card) describing one self-care practice they pledged to do in the coming month. These cards will be mailed back to them in two weeks as a gentle reminder of their promise to themselves.
In another reflective activity, participants were invited to write an “AHA” moment or a single word capturing their experience on a leaf or post-it note, allowing for a collective summary of insights gained during the café.
As part of the appreciation for their participation, providers received incentives, and raffles were held to add a moment of joy to the day.
