Child Care Provider Requirements

Learn the requirements to become a licensed or license-exempt child care provider through Pomona Unified School District.

Licensed Child Care Centers and Homes

They must have a child care license from Community Care Licensing. If you want to provide child care through the Pomona Unified School District, you need to follow these important rules:

  • You must have a child care license from Community Care Licensing if you care for children in a center or in your own home.

  • You need to follow special safety and care rules called Title 22 Regulations.

  • You must meet all state requirements.

  • You also need to give Pomona Unified School

Licensed-Exempt Child Care Centers

Some child care centers don’t need a license, but they still must follow Title 22 requirements. These include:
  • The number of staff needed
  • How many kids can be there
  • Taking attendance every day
These centers must give Pomona Unified a signed form saying they follow these requirements. Families cannot use this program for summer camps or recreation programs that don’t follow the requirements. More documents may be needed.

 License-Exempt Home Providers

These are people who care for children in their homes without a license.
Here’s what they are required to do:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Complete a Health and Safety Certification with the parent or guardian

  • Both the parent (or guardian) and the provider must finish all forms and steps before the provider is approved

Rate Sheet License-Exempt Home Form

  • If you are a license-exempt home provider, you can fill out a Rate Sheet Form.

  • This form shows how much you want to charge for child care.

  • This is only for families in the Pomona Unified program.

Background Check

The background check process includes several steps:

  • Filling out a Criminal Record Statement
  • Signing up for Guardian (TrustLine)
  • Getting fingerprinted using Live Scan 
 
Pomona Unified must receive TrustLine approval before payment can be made. Applicants with a serious criminal history may not be approved. Understand that if you have a serious criminal history, Pomona Unified may decide not to approve you.🔗 Learn more: TrustLine & Guardian Info

Orientation

The orientation is optional. Providers and families can choose to attend a one-on-one meeting to help explain:
  • The program requirements
  • How the program works
  • How payments are made
Resource & Referral (R&R)
Resource & Referral (R&R) is a free program that connects families and child care providers with licensed child care information, referrals, and support services. We serve Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County.
